Maria Gomez: Sustainable Fashion Trailblazer

Maria Gomez, originally from Colombia, always dreamed of bringing her culture’s vibrant weaving techniques to the global stage. After moving to the UK, Maria struggled to find a market for her designs. Through the Immigrant Founders’ Network, she attended a workshop on business strategy and participated in the Q1 Innovators Grant program, winning £10,000 to scale her business. With mentorship from experienced fashion entrepreneurs, Maria launched her eco-friendly clothing line, Raíces Eco Wear. Today, her designs are stocked in boutique stores across London, and she’s a vocal advocate for sustainable and inclusive fashion.

Anil Sharma, an immigrant from India, noticed a gap in personalized education tools for students in the UK. Combining his background in AI with insights gained from the network’s mentorship program, Anil developed a prototype for Learn Flow, an app that tailors study plans based on students’ learning habits. With a £15,000 grant from the network and connections made at the 2024 Innovation Summit, Anil secured partnerships with three UK schools to pilot his app. Today, Learn Flow is empowering thousands of students and revolutionizing classroom learning.

The Immigrant Entrepreneur Weaving Success: Kwame Mensah’s Story

Kwame Mensah, a talented Ghanaian designer, arrived in the UK with a dream of introducing the vibrant artistry of Kente cloth to the local fashion scene. Despite the challenges of navigating a new market, he found guidance through The Immigrant Founders’ Network, which connected him with experienced mentors and resources, in which, he refined his vision for a sustainable and ethical fashion brand. A £12,000 grant
from the network’s Q2 Innovators Fund enabled him to launch Kente Couture, blending
traditional Kente patterns with contemporary designs. Workshops and networking events hosted by the network provided Kwame access to investors and collaborators, leading to
further growth. Today, Kente Couture is a flourishing brand, featured in prestigious fashion shows and high-end UK boutiques, showcasing the richness of Ghanaian heritage and the impact of empowering immigrant entrepreneurs.

Jermaine Samuels, a talented chef from Jamaica, successfully brought his passion
for authentic Caribbean cuisine to London by founding Jermaine’s Jerk, a thriving
restaurant celebrated for its flavourful jerk chicken, curries, and tropical cocktails. Despite challenges navigating the UK food industry, Jermaine received crucial support from The Immigrant Founders’ Network. The network provided mentorship on business planning, marketing, and operations, as well as a grant that helped him secure a prime location and equip the restaurant. Thanks to this support, Jermaine created a vibrant dining experience that combines authentic Jamaican flavours with warm hospitality, earning widespread acclaim and showcasing the richness of Jamaican culture in London.
